Two host utilities supporting HYDROVISION International 2021: Avista and Chelan PUD

Two utilities that produce hydropower in Washington State near Spokane in the U.S. are supporting HYDROVISION International 2021 as its host utilities: Avista and Chelan PUD.

HYDROVISION International 2021 is planned to take place July 27 to 29, 2021, in Spokane.

Avista was founded in 1889 and is involved in the production, transmission and distribution of energy as well as other energy-related businesses. Avista Utilities is its operating division, providing electricity to nearly 340,000 customers and natural gas to about 300,000 customers across 30,000 square miles and four northwestern states. As of the end of 2019, more than half of Avista’s electricity generation mix was renewables, with the majority of that being hydropower.

In addition, Alaska Energy and Resources Company, an Avista subsidiary, provides retail electric service in the city and borough of Juneau through its subsidiary Alaska Electric Light and Power Company.

Chelan County Public Utility District was formed in 1936 by local voters who wanted affordable power for all county residents. The company delivered its first electricity 11 years later, to a small group of customers near Lake Chelan. Chelan PUD operates three hydro projects that deliver clean, renewable, low-cost energy to local residents and to other utilities that serve millions of residents of the Pacific Northwest. Chelan PUD has an all-renewable, carbon-free generation portfolio composed of more than 99% hydropower.

HYDROVISION International is the world’s largest hydro industry event, typically attracting over 3,000 attendees and more than 300 exhibiting companies from more than 50 countries. The event highlights perspectives on the role of hydropower, explores issues affecting hydro resources, and helps participants develop a vision to meet challenges and ensure the future sustainability of hydro.

HYDROVISION International’s conference program features 42 sessions over two full days. These include panel presentation sessions, technical paper presentations, and poster galleries. An additional 20-plus sessions will take place in two Knowledge Hubs in the exhibit hall and are open to all attendees.

Also, the event features an opening keynote on Tuesday and a utility executive roundtable on Thursday.
