Jobs and People Plan ahead to join other large hydro operators at HYDROVISION 2025 Elizabeth Ingram 8.27.2024 Share HYDROVISION International 2025 will again host the Global Symposium for Large Hydropower Plant Operators, the fifth such gathering, next July in Minneapolis, Minn., U.S. This symposium gathers owners and operators of the world’s largest hydroelectric power plants (GW scale) to discuss the unique challenges they face, connect with their “peers” and exchange best practices and lessons learned. This is a complimentary, invitation-only forum. At last year’s forum in Denver, Colo., U.S., participants included Axpo Power, Bonneville Power Administration, Bureau of Reclamation, Greenko, International Hydropower Association, KfW Development Agency, New York Power Authority, Rio Tinto and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In 2023, other participants included Electricite de France, Itaipu Binacional, Manitoba Hydro and Tennessee Valley Authority. The first such symposium, held in 2016, provided content and connections for Reclamation, China Three Gorges, China Yangtze Power Co., Hydro-Quebec, Itaipu Binacional and Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority. The 2025 symposium will take place on Tuesday, July 15. This timing, the day before HYDROVISION International 2025 kicks off, also will allow attendees to take advantage of the breadth of education provided at this global hydro industry event. The 2024 event attracted about 1,200 attendees representing more than 40 countries. HYDROVISION International offers unparalleled networking opportunities and about 50 content sessions with insights from more than 100 speakers over two full days. The large hydro symposium will feature several content sessions, delivered by the attendees and covering topics uniquely of interest for large hydro facilities. Some topics from 2024 included attracting and retaining personnel, asset management, remedial action schemes, hydropower preservation and safety of large dams. And 2023 sessions covered using new technologies to prevent asset anomalies, NYPA’s Next Generation Niagara Project and TVA’s Hydro Life Extension Program.
