Daniella Piper, regional manager, western New York and chief transformation officer for the New York Power Authority, will speak during the opening keynote at HYDROVISION International 2023.

NYPA’s western region is anchored by the authority’s largest hydroelectric facility – the Niagara Power Project. In addition, as the authority’s chief transformation officer, Piper provides leadership to select transformational initiatives. In doing this, she uses her extensive experience in leading the Digital Transformation Office. Before her current position, Piper was chief of staff and vice president, Digital Transformation Office, charged with driving the implementation of strategic initiatives by leveraging technology and building strong relationships with NYPA staff at all levels and external partners. As chief of staff, she acted as a trusted advisor to NYPA’s president  and chief executive officer and facilitated interdepartmental dialogue, ensuring greater cohesion and alignment within the organization.

Piper started at the authority in 2007 as a developmental intern in the electrical engineering department. She has held roles of increasing responsibility in multiple departments, including the reliability standards and compliance group and project management, where she led multiple programs including the authority’s Transmission Life Extension and Modernization Program, a $726M program to extend the life of transmission assets.

Piper is a licensed professional engineer in New York State and holds a bachelor of engineering in electrical engineering from City College of New York, a master of science in electrical engineering from New York University, and a master of engineering construction management from Manhattan College.

She has been a member of IEEE since 2005 and is a mentor in the Workplace Culture Coaching Program of Westchester Community College.

NYPA is the largest state public power organization in the U.S., operating 16 generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines. More than 80% of the electricity NYPA produces is clean, renewable hydropower. NYPA finances its operations through the sale of bonds and revenues earned in large part through sales of electricity.

The keynote session on Tuesday, July 11, is open to all attendees.
