A new scholarship fund has been launched to honor Julie Keil, who worked tirelessly on behalf of the environment, stakeholders and clean energy.

The Julie A. Keil Women in Hydro Scholarship Fund will support women who aspire to a career in hydropower and share Julie’s characteristics:

  • Leadership
  • Courage
  • Strength
  • Energy
  • Persistence
  • Enthusiasm

The scholarship provides support for women enrolled in an accredited college, university or technical school program majoring in a discipline relevant to entering the hydropower industry. It will be based on merit and financial needs. Grants will also be made to women to assist in expenses to attend industry events.

The awardee(s) will be announced at the Women with Hydro Vision luncheon at HydroVision International, June 27, 2018, in Charlotte, N.C., U.S.

More on Julie

Julie Keil died unexpectedly in late 2015.

At the time, Keil was chair of the Low Impact Hydropower Institute and was a senior consultant at GEI Consultants.

Keil worked for Portland General Electric Company for 20 years and was president of the National Hydropower Association from 1997 to 1998 and past president of the Northwest Hydroelectric Association. She had served as chair of NHA’s regulatory affairs committee and was a member of NHA’s relicensing reform task force.

Keil was given the Dr. Kenneth Henwood Award in 2003 “for her continued dedication to the hydro industry by her active involvement in every major national initiative focused on reforming the hydro licensing process and furthering the cause of sustaining hydro power as the nation’s leading renewable energy technology,” NHA said.

She was given a Women with Hydro Vision award (posthumously) at HydroVision International 2016 in the category of environmental protection and mitigation.
