CEO of Ukranian hydro utility to give keynote address at HYDROVISION International

Ihor Syrota, chief executive officer of Ukrhydroenergo in Ukraine, will be speaking during the opening keynote session at HYDROVISION International 2023.

Ukrhydroenergo is the largest hydropower generation company in Ukraine, 100% of the shares of which belong to the state. The company operates 10 hydropower plants on the Dnipro and Dniester rivers. Ukrhydroenergo provides coverage of peak loads, frequency and power regulation, and a mobile emergency reserve in the United Energy System of Ukraine. The total capacity of 104 hydro units installed at the company’s power plants is 6,208 MW.

Syrota has worked at Ukrhydroenergo since 2010. In 2011, he was appointed CEO. During these 13 years under his leadership, the company is developing its business and continues to be a power field leader. Corporate governance reform has been implemented during the years of the company’s management under Syrota’s leadership.

Syrota graduated from the Lviv Medical School in 1978 and studied at the Lviv Commercial Academy from 1996 to 2001, receiving a specialty in Management of Organizations and obtaining the qualification of a manager. Over his years of work in the energy sector, Syrota also received several awards and honors at the state level.

Along with other Ukrainian companies, for 14 months, Ukrhydroenergo has been actively countering aggression by the Russian Federation. It efficiently and effectively uses its resources for the sake of future victory, Ukrhydroenergo said. Syrota is convinced that business companies’ support for the state and social priorities is a key element of victory in such difficult times. The company was and is on the energy frontline and has played an essential role in ensuring reliability of the power system.

Ukrhydroenergo remains profitable and intends to continue development and restoration projects. The company’s hydropower and pumped storage projects are actively involved in the balancing market, namely in adjusting the daily load schedule to cover peaks and troughs and in frequency/capacity control. In addition, when unloading nuclear and thermal power units during missile attacks, Ukrhydroenergo replaced the lack of generating capacity in the power system.

Syrota devotes his spare time to his big family. Recently, this family became significantly bigger after the couple and their children decided to take care of a family of five children who were orphaned by Russia’s military aggression.

The keynote session is open to all attendees.
