August HYDRO+ training: Achieve dam inspections with drones and UAVs

Dams and other civil structures associated with hydroelectric projects need to be monitored and inspected for safety. What are the alternatives to potentially putting personnel at risk to achieve this? Our August session in our ongoing HYDRO+ free monthly virtual training program will offer the alternative of using drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for dam inspection.

Hydro Review and HYDROVISION International are hosting this HYDRO+ webcast.

The session scheduled for August is:

Civil Works and Dam Safety: Using Drones and UAVs for Dam Inspection, Aug. 19, 11 am CST

Drones and UAVs are an alternative option for conducting inspections of dams and other civil structures at hydroelectric facilities. In many situations, this type of technology is preferable, for example if the owner needs to monitor conditions at a hard-to-access site or the safety of personnel may be at risk during the inspection. During this session, several project owners who employ this technology will discuss how they made this decision, the type of technology used, and results achieved.

The expert speakers for this session are:

Moderator Sharon Roach, Senior FERC Dam Safety Coordinator, Water, Mead & Hunt

Joshua Fowler, Project Manager, Niricson

John Lindberg, Technical Executive, EPRI

Additionally, on Sept. 19, we will be offering a session on Optimizing Dam Operations, Maintenance and Repair with Geospatial AI, sponsored by Rezatec.

The HYDRO+ monthly series of virtual events brings together the hydro community through live content, match-making, networking and an engaging virtual experience for those looking for perspective and discussion on current and future issues affecting the hydroelectric power and dams markets.
