Business Operators of the world’s largest hydropower plants kick off HYDROVISION International 2023 Elizabeth Ingram 7.10.2023 Share In a targeted gathering unique to HYDROVISION International, representatives of some of the world’s largest hydropower plants spent the day Monday, July 10, learning and networking with their peers around key topics of interest. Participants in the 3rd Global Symposium for Large Hydropower Plant Operators represented the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation, EDF, Itaipu Binacional, Manitoba Hydro, New York Power Authority, Tennessee Valley Authority and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This invitation-only symposium provides a unique opportunity to share valuable information with and gain insights from other large hydro operators across the globe. All of the day’s content sessions were developed and presented by attendees, designed to cover subjects of interest to all participants. At this year’s symposium, topics of discussion included: Transitioning back to the workplace after COVID-19, Using new technologies to prevent asset anomalies, 10 trending topics for the Corps’ hydropower design program, Pros and cons of having and sustaining an onsite fire brigade, The Next Generation Niagara capital project, TVA’s hydro life extension program, and What the Corps can accomplish using Copperleaf planning software. The symposium concluded with a group discussion of hot topics, such as operational issues and maintenance challenges at large hydroelectric projects. This was one last chance for the group members to learn from others facing similar challenges, who may have developed solutions the group can implement. HYDROVISION International 2023 is taking place now in Charlotte, N.C., U.S. It formally kicks off Tuesday, July 11 at 2 pm with the opening keynote.
