A new cloud-connected acoustic monitoring system from Voith Hydro is helping hydropower plant owners and operators better maintain their assets.

Called “OnCare.Acoustic”, the product was unveiled this week during HydroVision International 2018 in Charlotte, N.C.

The modular system uses acoustic equipment, monitoring systems and advanced analytics as a supplement to existing diagnostic technologies, giving operators another tool to both diagnose and anticipate problems.

“Plant operators can be informed about suspicious, detected sounds which are already pre-classified in warnings and alarms,” Voith said in a statement. “This supports customers in deciding whether they need to take action. By classifying the events and allocating them to specific equipment, plant operators get further insights into their hydropower plant and thereby increase the chance of identifying possible dangerous conditions, ahead of other alarms.”
