The project will ensure renewable energy stability for sustainability, driving the country to achieve carbon neutrality, according to a press release. The 24 MW project at Ubol Ratana Dam (also called Ubolratana) on the Nam Phong River generates electricity from clean energy by using a hybrid system that combines solar power and hydropower along with a battery energy storage system (BESS) to help stabilize electricity generation from renewable energy. The consortium partners consist of Mitr Phol Energy Services Co., Ltd., PEA ENCOM International Co., Ltd. and Dongfang Electric International Corporation (DEC). Boonyanit Wongrukmit, EGAT governor, said the project at Ubol Ratana Dam is a part of EGAT’s clean energy development project. EGAT plans to develop an additional 15 hydro-floating solar hybrid projects nationwide to support renewable energy demands sustainably according to the national policy. EGAT operates the organization using the “Triple S” strategy, namely: Sources Transformation: increase the share of renewable energy in the generation mix and use new technologies to support renewable energy, Sink Co-creation: increase carbon adsorption methods, and Support Measures Mechanism: promote greenhouse gas reduction to the public and promote EV use. In April, Hydro Review reported that the U.S. Trade and Development Agency awarded a grant to EGAT for a feasibility study to support the development of a grid-connected pumped storage hydropower plant at Vajiralongkorn Dam in western Thailand.
