TripAdvisor selected these sites by reviewing tour and activity bookings at each attraction in 2019. About Hoover Dam, TripAdvisor said: “The Hoover Dam, located near Boulder City and previously known as “Boulder Dam,” is a must-see when visiting Nevada, according to TripAdvisor. But the travel site recommends a different way to see it — from the sky. TripAdvisor suggests taking a tour of the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon in a helicopter, which also features views of Lake Mead. For those not interested in an aerial experience, TripAdvisor recommends the Hoover Dam Mini Tour.” Hoover Dam is often called one of the modern wonders of the world. Standing more than 700 feet tall and containing over 3,250,000 cubic yards of concrete, the magnificent structure spans the Colorado River between Nevada and Arizona, forming the 247-square-mile Lake Mead reservoir. The dam impounds water for a 2,078-MW hydro powerhouse, with 17 turbine-generator units. These units are currently undergoing rehabilitation.
