News Itaipu begins object 1 of technological update plan hydroreviewcontentdirectors 5.24.2022 Share Execution of Object 1 of the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant Technological Update Plan has begun, with the overall goal of modernizing equipment at the 14 GW hydro facility with state-of-the-art digital technology. As previously reported on Hydro Review, this work will allow the plant to continue producing quality electricity with the highest levels of reliability and operability. According to the Management Committee of the Technological Updating Plan (PAT), the CMI Consortium will prepare and submit for approval an integrated executive plan for management of the Technological Updating, including the entire scope of the undertaking. In addition, a series of technical meetings will be held between the consortium and Itaipu to obtain the necessary information for understanding and preparing this executive plan, which has a forecast duration up to eight months. The executive planning establishes the general guidelines and requirements for the execution, monitoring and control of the management of the contract for the supply of equipment, services and training of the Technological Update of the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant. All the planning components presented must be considered and must cover the comprehensive technical scope of the project, going through all the technical phases of the undertaking. The contract corresponding to Object 1, which points to a completely digital plant with the most modern equipment, has a value of $649,249,958 and the term of execution is 168 months, counted from the start order of execution. The purpose of this contract is the supply of equipment, materials, works, services and training provided for the systems of the generating units, centralized control, electrical and mechanical auxiliary services, the 500 kV substation (GIS), and the dam and spillway.
