New Development Brief: Developer plans modification for two hydro projects in Peru hydroreviewcontentdirectors 3.19.2020 Share Inland Energy has submitted a request to Peruvian environmental authorities to modify the detailed environmental impact statement for the 228-MW Lluclla and 156-MW Lluta hydro projects and associated 500-kV transmission link. The proposed change entails using a 220-kV transmission line to transport electricity from the plants to the national grid, according to the environmental certification service for sustainable investments (Senace), which approved the EIS last year. According to BNamericas, information regarding whether the new dispatch infrastructure would replace or complement the 500-kV component was not disclosed. The Lluclla project is anticipated to cost US$422 million to develop. The Lluta project is to cost US$274 million. Together, these two projects are called Majes Siguas II, being built in the Arequipa region of Peru. The Arequipa regional government in Peru and power distributor Luz del Sur have signed a contract to advance development of the project in July 2018. At that time, the plants were anticipated to be operational by the end of 2023. It is unclear whether the change to the transmission link will delay completion of the projects.
