Jessica Graeber to receive first Julie Keil Scholarship for Women in Hydropower

Jessica Graeber, a law student at the Lewis & Clark Northwestern School of Law in Portland, Ore., U.S., has been named the first recipient of the Julie Keil Scholarship for Women in Hydropower.

This scholarship was launched in late 2017 to honor Keil, who worked tirelessly on behalf of the environment, stakeholders and clean energy. The scholarship provides support for women enrolled in an accredited college, university or technical school program majoring in a discipline relevant to entering the hydropower industry. Graeber will receive $3,000.

Keil worked for Portland General Electric for 20 years and was president of the National Hydropower Association from 1997 to 1998 and past president of the Northwest Hydroelectric Association. Keil passed away in 2015.

Graeber is following in the steps of Julie Keil. While attending law school, Graeber is serving as the hydro licensing coordinator for the Deschutes Project for Portland General Electric. “I have the pleasure of continuing Ms. Keil’s vision at the Pelton Round Butte project on the Deschutes River and additionally have the pleasure of attending Ms. Keil’s alma mater, where I hear about her talents and attributes from my professors regularly,” Graeber said. She is currently enrolled in the Masters of Studies in Environmental Law program.

The scholarship will be presented June 27 during the Women with Hydro Vision luncheon at HydroVision International in Charlotte, N.C., U.S. Tickets to the luncheon are available for just US$20.

Graeber has been awarded the Lewis and Clark Law School Environmental Leadership Award and is certified as a member of the Project Management Institute. She is a member of the Women in Environment networking group and has worked in the hydropower profession since 2012.
