The memorandum defines the intentions of the companies to cooperate in the restoration of hydropower facilities in Ukraine, in particular the Kakhovka project. The 351 MW Kakhovka hydropower plant was completely destroyed in June 2023. The plant, on the Dnieper River in the Kherson Oblast (province) of southern Ukraine, was put into service in 1956. During the signing ceremony, the General Director of Ukrhydroenergo, Ihor Syrota, thanked his French colleagues for their support in this difficult time and expressed hope for establishing close and fruitful cooperation. “Your company and the equipment you produce are known in the world. We visited your production facilities several times and were impressed by the level of technology and the expertise of your team. Unfortunately, we have a lot of damaged electrical equipment after the missile strikes by the enemy. We will be glad to see you as our partners in view of the need to restore the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant and other objects that were damaged by Russian missiles. I invite you to dynamic cooperation, because by the end of the year we should have a clear plan for the execution of the works,” he said. In turn, General Director of GE Vernova Hydro Power Frederic Riberas expressed the company’s readiness to actively participate in the reconstruction of Ukrainian hydropower. “We are proud of the cooperation we are starting with Ukrhydroenergo. These facilities are critically important for providing electricity to Ukrainian homes, schools, hospitals and enterprises with clean and renewable electricity.” In August, Ukrhydroenergo signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Turkish holding Doğuş Group, which provides for cooperation in the construction of hydroelectric power plants in Ukraine.
