Hydro industry veteran Doug Miller dies

Doug Miller, a lifetime hydro professional, lost his battle with cancer in July. He was 68.

After graduation from Bucknell University, Miller worked in model and field testing of hydro generating units, hydraulic design and sales at Allis Chalmers’ Hydroturbine Division (now Voith Hydro). He was also president of GEC Alstom Electromechanical (formerly Neyrpic Inc.) and oversaw U.S. operations for the company.

At the time of his death, Miller was director of business development and responsible for international sales at Weir American Hydro, as well as managing the marketing and coordination of U.S. government contracts.

Miller was active in the industry throughout his career. As a representative of American Hydro, he served on the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Council for the Secretary of Commerce for three years. He also served on the planning committees for the National Hydropower Association Conference and HydroVision International.

Colleagues describe Miller as an enthusiastic, dedicated and optimistic industry leader with a passion for hydro. He cared about attracting and preparing the next generation of hydro professionals to ensure the industry’s growth.

“Doug was an unbelievable advocate for the industry,” says Linda Church Ciocci, executive director of the National Hydropower Association. “He worked tirelessly on behalf of hydro and was very excited about the industry’s future.”

Church Ciocci noted that Miller had a kind, infectious personality and commitment that made him well-liked and respected. “Doug had two families that he loved dearly: his own and the entire hydro industry. He will be greatly missed,” she says.

Miller served in U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. To honor his service, Miller has been nominated to the PennWell Wall of Honor, which recognizes veterans and active duty service personnel.

Minniti named vice president and general manager with NAES

Mark Minniti is vice president and general manager of the NAES Power Contractors office in Cranberry Township, Pa. In this role, he is responsible for all activities for the company that are generated and managed from that office.

Minniti has more than 38 years of management and sales experience in the construction, maintenance and fabrication industries, with a focus on the U.S. power industry. Before joining NAES, he was vice president, fossil business development at Day & Zimmermann Engineering, Construction and Maintenance.

NAES is headquartered in Issaquah, Wash., and provides services to industries that generate or consume power.

Dulude joins Environmental Resources Management as partner

John Dulude is now a partner in ERM: Environmental Resources Management.

In this position, he will contribute to the delivery of impact assessment and planning services for power sector clients on major projects within the U.S. and internationally.

Previously, Dulude was senior principal engineer with Normandeau Associates Inc. He joined the company in 2008 and led the southern marketing effort for the company, which performs all aspects of project management and strategic oversight for energy-related projects. Prior to that, Dulude spent 27 years at government agency Santee Cooper, most recently as manager of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission relicensing for the 134-MW Santee Cooper project.

ERM provides environmental, health, safety, risk and social consulting services.

Preusch tapped to lead WEST Consultants’ new office

WEST Consultants named David Preusch vice president, giving him the duties of managing its newly opened Laytonsville, Md., office.

Preusch has more than 33 years’ experience in water resources planning and engineering and has done work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tennessee Valley Authority, Federal Emergency Management Agency and numerous state agencies.

Previously, Preusch worked at Michael Baker Corp., where he served as water resources technical services manager. The company provides engineering and consulting services for public and private sector clients.

WEST Consultants is a water resource engineering firm with eight offices in Arizona, California, Maryland, Oregon and Washington.
