Rehabilitation and Repair KONČAR to rehab Haditha hydropower project in Iraq hydroreviewcontentdirectors 6.27.2022 Share KONČAR Group has signed an agreement worth €65 million ($68.7 million) with Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity (MOE) to revitalize the 660 MW Haditha hydropower project. The plant, built in the 1980s on the Haditha River in western Iraq, contains six 128 MVA units. The revitalization will be spearheaded by KONČAR – Engineering (KET). Under the agreement, the company will carry out a partial revitalization of generation units; replace part of the equipment, the entire plant management system, the excitation system and electric protection system; and upgrade mechanical subsystems and hydromechanical equipment. The signing ceremony was held at the headquarters of the MOE, where the agreement was signed by Ivan Tomšić, member of the Management Board of KONČAR – Engineering (KET) and Ali Ahmad Hassan, managing director of GEEP (General Directorate of Electricity Production). KET will carry out this project in a consortium with a local Iraqi partner Al Rashak. The timeline for completing the project was not released. Haditha Dam is an earthfill dam that is just over 9 km (5.6 mi) long and 57 m (187 ft) high. In addition to hydropower generation and flood control, the dam provides water for irrigation.
