Austria utility Verbund Austrian Hydro Power AG seeks bids for construction supervision and for geological consultation for the 430-MW Reisseck 2 pumped-storage project in Austria. Bids in separate solicitations are due November 6, 2009.

Verbund took bids in September to supply transformers for Reisseck 2, an addition to the six-plant, 138.1-MW Reisseck/Kreuzeck hydroelectric complex in Upper Carinthia. (HydroWorld 8/20/09) It took bids in May for civil construction, including a water tunnel constructed by tunnel-boring machine, surge tank, penstocks, powerhouse and transformer caverns, approach roads, and related facilities.

In the first of two current solicitations, the developer seeks construction supervision and building site coordination for Reisseck 2, which represents an investment of about 215 million euros (US$287 million) and 3,000 person-years of employment.

In the second solicitation, Verbund seeks bids for geological documentation and consultation.

Bid documents for each solicitation, in German, may be obtained from the address below until October 23. Bids for each solicitation are due by noon November 6.

A five-kilometer tunnel will connect the Reisseck annual storage reservoir and the 730-MW Malta Hauptstufe power plant. The existing Grosser Muhldorfer See reservoir on the Reisseck lake plateau will be used as an upper reservoir in pump operation while the lower reservoirs will be the Gosskar and Galgenbichl reservoirs of the Malta power plant group, Malta Hauptstufe, 120-MW Malta Oberstufe, and 41-MW Malta Unterstufe.

The six plants in the Reisseck/Kreuzeck hydroelectric complex include 67.5-MW Reisseck annual storage, 23.2-MW Reisseck daily storage, 45-MW Kreuzeck daily storage, 1.6-MW Niklai, 600-kW Muhldorf, and 200-kW Steinfeld.
