Plutonic Power Corp. promotes Sutton, Rapp

Jay Sutton, P.Eng., is vice president hydro and Paul Rapp, P.Eng., is vice president wind for Plutonic Power Corp. in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

For the past year, Sutton has been overseeing construction of the 196-MW Toba Montrose hydro project for the Toba Montrose General Partnership. Before that, he worked for WorleyParsons as project manager for the Toba Montrose project from 2008 to 2010. He joined WorleyParsons in 2005 and was a construction manager for BC Hydro from 2000 to 2005.

Rapp joined Plutonic in 2008 and has had senior leadership responsibilities in construction of Toba Montrose and played a supporting role in a variety of development projects. Before that, he held several senior engineering and management positions with a crown corporation involved in dam operations, design work, and permitting.

In addition, Paul Sweeney and Grigor E. Cook, P.Eng., have stepped down as senior officers and are transitioning to part-time roles with Plutonic. Sweeney was executive officer of the company. Cook was appointed chief executive officer of Dokie General Partnership in 2009 to oversee the strategic planning and construction of the Dokie wind project.

In addition to Toba Montrose, Plutonic Power proposes to build the 166.3-MW Upper Toba Valley and 1,027-MW Bute Inlet projects.

Lux joins Kleinschmidt’s Madison, Wis., office

Frederick (Rick) Lux III, PE, is senior consultant with Kleinschmidt Associates’ newest office in Madison, Wis.

Lux has more than 30 years of experience in engineering, inspection, planning, and design of dams and hydro facilities. His main fields of expertise include dam rehabilitation design, spillway capacity enhancements, gate evaluation and design, and dewatering systems for hydropower intakes and gated spillway bays.

Previously, Lux was president of Aubian Engineering Inc., senior associate with Schnabel Engineering Inc., and senior water resources engineer with Ayres Associates.

Kleinschmidt has more than 120 employees in 11 offices throughout the U.S. to meet the needs of energy and water resources clients.

Park joins GEI Consultants

Laurene Park, CPA, is senior project manager with GEI Consultants Inc., focusing on sustainable water and energy resources.

Park has 26 years of experience in water and energy resources planning and management. She will help GEI’s clients develop and implement sustainable strategies, including water and energy efficiency, renewable energy, non-traditional water resources, and new technologies and business models.

Before joining GEI, Park was director at a national consulting firm where she advised clients on resource efficiency, climate action, and sustainability. Before that, she managed resource and business planning and development for Hetch Hetchy Water and Power.

GEI has provided consulting and engineering services in 50 states.

NAES names Kimbrell, DeNeve vice presidents

NAES Engineering & Construction Group has two new vice presidents. Butch Kimbrell is vice president of construction and Bob DeNeve is vice president of business development.

Kimbrell has more than 30 years of experience in project management, strategic planning, operations, and business development. Before joining NAES, he worked in the construction industry. Kimbrell will be based in the Issaquah, Wash., office.

Prior to NAES, DeNeve was director of business development with SNC Lavalin Engineers & Constructors. Before that, he was involved in business development for Foster Wheeler USA, TIC, and Olin Corporation/Chemicals Group. DeNeve will be based in the Houston office.

NAES provides construction services, including retrofit and maintenance, on-site turbine inspection/overhaul, and plant operations.

Hubert named vice president of Geotechnical Services

Geotechnical Services Inc. (GSI) named Edward Hubert principal environmental scientist and vice president.

In this position, Hubert will lead the firm’s effort in the Kansas City market. GSI is a provider of environmental and geotechnical engineering services in the Midwest, with eight offices throughout Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska.

Before joining GSI, Hubert was regional manager for Environmental Works and held several managerial positions during 18 years with Tetra Tech.

BAUER-Pileco adds Wehbe, Baxter to team

Jean Wehbe is a civil engineer and Michael Baxter is director of sales for BAUER-Pileco.

Wehbe was with BAUER Maschinen GmbH in Germany before moving to BAUER-Pileco in Houston, Texas. Previously, he was a geotechnical project engineer.

Before joining BAUER-Pileco, Baxter worked in the equipment rental industry and spent 15 years with Ingersoll-Rand’s Construction and Mining Division, ending as vice president and branch manager of the Milwaukee, Wis., operation.

BAUER-Pileco provides equipment and support to the foundation construction industry. BAUER-Pileco represents BAUER Maschinen in North America.
