Canada utility BC Hydro seeks information from contractors on a draft solicitation for rehabilitation of a spillway chute at W.A.C. Bennett Dam, site of the 2,730-MW G.M. Shrum hydroelectric project. Responses are due Oct. 7, with a solicitation expected in November.

W.A.C. Bennett Dam was completed in 1967 on the Peace River, forming Williston Reservoir, the largest body of water in British Columbia. BC Hydro is in the midst of refurbishing eight of Shrum’s 10 generating units. It took bids in 2008 for the turbine work.

The utility issued a request for information to suppliers, seeking responses to draft specifications and pricing for resurfacing work of the W.A.C. Bennett Dam spillway chute, 21 kilometers west of Hudson’s Hope, B.C. The work is to consist of repairs and upgrades to the chute’s reinforced concrete, including removal of concrete, and supply and placement of concrete, steel reinforcement, dowels, and embedded metalwork.

A request for information notice may be obtained from British Columbia’s BC Bid Internet site, www.bcbid.gov.bc.ca, under http://www.bcbid.gov.bc.ca/open.dll/showDisplayDocument?sessionID=31846776&disID=25835529&docType=Tender&dis_version_nos=0&doc_search_by=Tend&docTypeQual=TN. BC Hydro said it expects to issue a request for proposals in November.
