Waterpower Week in Washington 2018 is scheduled for April 30 through May 2, at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C., and this year the event will see an industry first.

The new chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Kevin J. McIntyre, is scheduled to speak during the morning plenary session on May 1. This will mark the first time McIntyre will address a national audience of professionals in the conventional hydropower and marine hydrokinetic energy industries.

McIntyre was nominated to FERC by U.S. President Donald J. Trump in August 2017 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Nov. 2, 2017.

Prior to joining FERC, McIntyre was co-leader at the Jones Day law firm of the global Energy Practice. His work for energy clients spanned administrative and appellate litigation, compliance and enforcement matters, and corporate transactions.

In addition to McIntyre, the event will feature a President’s luncheon address from Thomas P. Smith, chief of Operations and Regulatory Division for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Corps Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

In his current position, Smith provides national oversight of the development, resourcing, and delivery of operations and maintenance programs for the Civil Works infrastructure portfolio and for Corps operational programs that include: hydroelectric power, public recreation, environmental restoration, wildlife management, and the regulatory oversight of waterways and wetlands.

Waterpower Week in Washington is comprised of three co-located conferences: the annual National Hydropower Association Conference, International Marine Renewable Energy Conference (IMREC), and Marine Energy Technology Symposium (METS). This three-day jam-packed event provides you the opportunity to network, learn about legislative and regulatory initiatives, and discuss the issues impacting hydropower and marine energy industry.
